Overview
Voltpost has completed the first lamppost electric vehicle charging platform public deployment in Illinois. Located in Oak Park, just outside Chicago, the charger is part of a broader initiative to scale convenient, affordable curbside and parking lot EV charging by upgrading existing urban infrastructure.
Illinois Goals
As Illinois advances goals for clean energy and transportation, expanding access to public EV charging is essential for supporting growing adoption. The state’s Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA) targets 1 million EVs on the road by 2030 and the phasing out of fossil fuels by 2050. Chicago plans to significantly expand public charging to reach the target to install 2,500 public EV charging stations by 2035. The city also plans to electrify their entire municipal fleet by 2035 and transition ride-hailing and taxi fleets to zero-emission vehicles by 2030. Chicago is currently piloting curbside EV charging in high-density urban areas with ComEd.
Many communities face challenges in deploying chargers due to the high costs and construction requirements of traditional systems. Voltpost’s lamppost charging platform offers an alternative that is fast to install, low-cost, and built for dense, urban areas.
Phase 1

The charger is located at 415 Lake Street and is publicly accessible, giving local residents and visitors a new option for reliable charging. The deployment was completed in partnership with:
