Voltpost and AT&T Deploy Connected Lamppost Charger in Detroit

Voltpost, the lamppost electric vehicle (EV) charging company, and AT&T today announced the first deployment of Voltpost Air in Metro Detroit at The Henry Ford  in Dearborn. This marks the debut of Voltpost’s next-generation lamppost charging platform in Michigan and represents a key milestone in the companies’ collaboration to scale reliable, connected EV charging across the Metro Detroit region, with funding from the Michigan Office of Future Mobility and Electrification and DTE Emerging Tech Fund.

Voltpost Air, launched in September 2025 and named one of Time Magazine’s Best Inventions of 2025, is a next-generation Level 2 EV charging platform designed for broader compatibility, faster installation, and industry-leading reliability. Voltpost Air enables site hosts to deploy one or two chargers on wooden or metal lampposts and utility poles, both curbside and in parking lots. Mounted approximately 10 feet above ground with a retractable cable system, Voltpost Air protects hardware from weather and vandalism while providing drivers convenient charging access. Voltpost Air is Build America, Buy America (BABA) compliant—one of the few BABA-compliant L2 chargers available.

“Our collaboration with AT&T enables us to deploy connected and reliable charging infrastructure that empowers communities and accelerates the transition to electric mobility,” said Jeffrey Prosserman, CEO and Co-Founder of Voltpost. “The Henry Ford is an iconic space dedicated to showcasing American innovation, making this a fitting home for the first Voltpost Air deployment in Michigan. This deployment advances our mission to bring next-generation charging access to more people in more places.”

By integrating AT&T’s IoT connectivity, Voltpost Air supports reliable day-to-day operations. Each charger’s highly secure wireless connection enables remote diagnostics, firmware updates, near real-time performance monitoring and usage reporting – capabilities are expected to improve uptime and streamline maintenance for site hosts. AT&T’s connectivity also supports the Voltpost app, allowing drivers to locate chargers, check availability, and monitor charging status. This deployment builds on the growing collaboration between Voltpost and AT&T to support transportation electrification with advanced connectivity solutions.

Deployment of Voltpost Air in 2026 is expected to provide a cost-effective, time-efficient, and flexible way to charge fleet vehicles. In addition to providing Voltpost IoT connectivity, AT&T may explore ways to colocate new connectivity solutions on lampposts and utility poles alongside Voltpost Air chargers to unlock additional value for cities, companies, automakers, and drivers. Together, these solutions can help site hosts create new revenue opportunities while expanding infrastructure access.

“At AT&T, we are committed to delivering highly secured wireless connectivity that  supports the transformation of transportation and energy systems,” said Matt Harden, Vice President, AT&T Connected Solutions. “Our collaboration with Voltpost demonstrates how AT&T IoT connectivity can strengthen charging infrastructure, improve operational efficiency, and enhance the driver experience. This work also supports AT&T’s Gigaton Goal to help business customers avoid one billion metric tons of CO2 by 2035, reflecting our focus on delivering business value while addressing critical environmental challenges.”

“From the Model T to the mobility solutions of tomorrow, The Henry Ford has always been a place where innovation comes to life,” said Patricia Mooradian, President and CEO of The Henry Ford . “Hosting Michigan’s first connected Voltpost Air charger reflects our commitment to showcasing technologies that shape the future of transportation and make sustainable mobility more accessible for communities across our state and beyond.”

“This deployment demonstrates how Michigan continues to lead the nation in testing and scaling next-generation mobility solutions,” said Justine Johnson, Michigan’s Chief Mobility Officer. “By supporting innovative projects like Voltpost Air, we are helping communities deploy EV charging faster and more cost-effectively, while also strengthening Michigan’s role as a global hub for mobility, electrification, and advanced infrastructure.”

“NextEnergy is proud to support projects that bring emerging energy and mobility technologies into real-world use,” said Jim Saber, President and CEO at NextEnergy. “Voltpost Air is an example of how creative infrastructure solutions can accelerate EV adoption, reduce deployment barriers, and deliver meaningful benefits for cities, site hosts, and drivers. This installation highlights the power of collaboration to advance a more sustainable and connected energy future.”

This deployment follows successful Voltpost deployments in Brooklyn, New York, Oak Park, Illinois, and at the American Center for Mobility near Detroit, and comes as Voltpost prepares for additional installations across Michigan, New York, Illinois, California, Connecticut, and Massachusetts.
