Voltpost, the leader in lamppost electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions, today announced the launch of Voltpost Air, a next-generation Level 2 charging platform designed for broader compatibility, faster installation, and industry-leading reliability. Voltpost Air maximizes pole compatibility and provides site hosts flexibility to deploy one or two EV chargers on wooden and metal lampposts, and utility poles, curbside and in parking lots.
The first public Voltpost Air lamppost charger in New York City is being activated today in Brooklyn at the MADE Bush Terminal during Climate Week, with support from New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), and Con Edison. This inaugural deployment establishes a pioneering model for lamppost charging and offers a blueprint for how cities across the country can repurpose existing infrastructure to rapidly expand EV access without disruptive construction or costly grid upgrades. By converting streetlights into reliable charging stations, Voltpost is setting a new standard for scalable, community-centered electrification in America’s largest city.
“Voltpost Air is a breakthrough product expansion fueled by our learnings from the last four years that addresses many of the challenges cities and property owners face when deploying EV charging,” said Jeffrey Prosserman, CEO and Co-Founder of Voltpost. “We are proud to debut the first Voltpost Air charger in Brooklyn during Climate Week, made possible with the support of NYCEDC, NYSERDA, and Con Edison. With millions of streetlights in the United States, the opportunity to convert even a fraction into chargers will make a significant positive impact. Born in America and built coast to coast, Voltpost is empowering communities with accessible, affordable charging. With Voltpost Air, we are ready to accelerate electrification nationwide and enable more people to go from gas to electric.”
Voltpost is leading the charge, partnering with leading cities, utilities, and corporations to deliver convenient, affordable access to clean mobility. Following successful deployments in Oak Park, Illinois, and at the American Center for Mobility near Detroit, Voltpost is rapidly expanding with a robust pipeline of projects spanning New York, California, Michigan, Illinois, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. By transforming lampposts into EV chargers, the company is accelerating the rollout of essential charging access in communities where this is most urgently needed.
Gabe Klein, Board Advisor at Voltpost, who recently served as the Executive Director of the U.S. Joint Office of Energy and Transportation and previously as transportation chief of both Washington, D.C., and Chicago, added, “The transition to renewable transportation requires bold, scalable solutions that can integrate seamlessly into existing urban infrastructure. Technologies like Voltpost’s lamppost chargers are vital because they unlock new opportunities to deploy EV charging. By making installation faster, more affordable, and more flexible, Voltpost is accelerating the shift to cleaner, more sustainable transportation systems.”
Introducing Voltpost Air
Building on the success of the award-winning Voltpost lamppost charging platform, Voltpost Air features a compact, modular design that allows municipalities and property owners to convert existing urban infrastructure into reliable EV chargers with minimal disruption. This new charger mounts about 10 feet above ground with a retractable cable system to protect against vandalism and weather. The expanded retrofit compatibility across a wider range of infrastructure will increase convenient charging options for EV drivers across cities.
Voltpost Air’s design allows for retrofit installation on wood and metal poles, significantly increasing the range of locations where this can be deployed. The compact, modular architecture enhances system resilience and enables cities and property owners to upgrade and future-proof their EV charging infrastructure. The Voltpost App offers drivers real-time information about charger availability, flexible payment options, and remote monitoring capabilities via smartphones, providing a seamless and convenient user experience.
Luke Mairo, COO and Co-Founder of Voltpost, said, “With Voltpost Air, we’re delivering a charger that meets the real-world needs of cities, property managers, and drivers. The modular design and quick installation reduce costs and complexity, making it easier than ever to expand charging infrastructure. We’re proud to provide a scalable solution that supports growing EV adoption while minimizing disruption to communities.”
First-Ever Voltpost Air Deployment in Brooklyn, New York
The Brooklyn deployment is part of NYCEDC’s Pilots at BAT program, which supports climate-tech companies in testing and scaling breakthrough solutions that advance the city’s clean energy transition. The Voltpost Air charger is deployed at the MADE Bush Terminal, and will be available to the public by the end of the year. Activated during Climate Week, the Brooklyn deployment is a beacon of sustainability and innovation—and the first of many deployments planned across New York State through Voltpost’s project funded in part by NYSERDA. NYCEDC’s historic Brooklyn Army Terminal (BAT) anchors a growing innovation ecosystem along the New York harbor with Pilots at BAT, and the creation of a cutting-edge climate innovation hubBATWorks, that will also provide start-ups with space for product research and development, further advancing the Adams administration’s efforts to create a “Harbor of the Future”.
“NYCEDC is continuing to leverage assets like the historic Brooklyn Army Terminal, and MADE Bush Terminal, for companies like Voltpost to test and scale new cutting-edge technology that will unlock solutions for the climate crisis and create fresh economic opportunity for the city,” said New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) President & CEO Andrew Kimball. “We are proud that New York City’s climate future is being built here in Sunset Park with Pilots at BAT, and the creation of BATWorks, a world-class climate innovation hub, that will further drive innovation and act as a cornerstone of New York City’s Harbor of the Future.”
New York State Energy Research and Development Authority President and CEO Doreen M. Harris said, “NYSERDA is proud to support Voltpost’s deployment of a new electric vehicle charging platform that incorporates innovative technology into existing infrastructure. Expanding access to reliable charging in Brooklyn for residents and businesses is just the start for this highly replicable, scalable model that can be adopted across New York State.”
“Voltpost Air represents a significant advancement in deployment efficiency and flexibility,” said Shelby Thompson, Director of Deployment at Voltpost. “We’re thrilled to activate our first public Voltpost Air charger in Brooklyn, a landmark project that demonstrates the real-world impact of our technology. The adaptable design and streamlined installation process enable us to expand reliable EV charging infrastructure quickly across a variety of settings. We’re excited to continue deploying throughout New York and nationwide, accelerating access to convenient charging and supporting the growth of electric vehicle adoption.”
Voltpost Air is now available for deployment in public and private locations, empowering municipalities, property managers, and businesses to efficiently and cost-effectively scale their EV charging networks. For more information, visit: voltpost.com
