New York, NY (July 9, 2025) — Voltpost, the lamppost electric vehicle (EV) charging company, will support the deployment of at least 10 dual-port Voltpost chargers to expand curbside EV charging infrastructure for New Yorkers and testing the feasibility of lamppost curbside EV charging in New York State.
"New York State requires over 1 million EV chargers by 2035 to meet zero-emission vehicle targets, including many in dense urban areas where parking is limited,” said Jeffrey Prosserman, CEO and Co-Founder of Voltpost. “To meet this need, Voltpost provides charging solutions that can be deployed quickly and equitably. This pioneering project with NYSERDA transforms lampposts into chargers that fit into the fabric of communities across New York State, bringing us one step closer to a future where every New Yorker has access to convenient, clean transportation."
The project supports Voltpost’s initiative to demonstrate the technical viability of lamppost EV charging across New York State. As part of the project, Voltpost is conducting the conduit interconnection process on municipal lampposts in various communities. This will guide the selection and feasibility study of multiple sites, with the ultimate deployment of Voltpost chargers at 10 locations in New York State.
Voltpost was awarded through NYSERDA’s Vehicle Grid Integration Program.
NYSERDA President and CEO, Doreen M. Harris said, “NYSERDA is pleased to support Voltpost’s innovative technology that brings electric vehicle charging solutions to convenient locations in the heart of New York’s communities. Retrofitting existing infrastructure reduces installation costs and provides residents and visitors access to quick, easy vehicle charging as they go about their daily activities.”
Voltpost is collaborating with key partners including Con Edison and municipal governments across the state to execute the project. In addition to funding field deployments, the NYSERDA project supports the development of Voltpost’s hardware and software system—advancing the company's mission to decarbonize the planet by democratizing EV charging access.
"The success of our existing curbside charging project highlights how effective curbside charging options can be in supporting New York City’s transition to electric vehicles—especially for the over 70 percent of car owners who do not have access to home charging," said Britt Reichborn-Kjennerud, director, E-Mobility, Con Edison. "We are excited to support Voltpost’s work to evaluate lamppost integration as a strategic opportunity to increase curbside charging access and better support the clean transportation needs of our customers.”
Voltpost’s lamppost retrofit solution enables rapid, cost-effective EV charger installations without the need for major construction or strain on the electric grid — supporting NYSERDA’s goal of developing innovative technologies that promote transportation electrification while reducing impact on the grid.
